Couples Therapy, Family Therapy & Relationship Counselling

Relationships form between partners, co-workers, family members, colleagues, neighbours and just about anyone that you have some kind of contact with. The depth and qualities of each relationship will be different and it's usually easy to tell when things are not right. You might think things like this:

  • he should know what I mean
  • she should know what I need
  • I wish I didn't have to keep asking him
  • I don't want to hurt her
  • I wish we could just go back to the way it was

You might feel like:

  • you are misunderstood
  • your opinion doesn't count
  • you don't have a voice
  • you are walking on egg shells
  • it's better to bite your tongue and avoid an argument
  • checking their phone or social media
  • you don't get the answers you want
  • they are hiding something
  • they don't really care
  • it's a frustrating situation
  • you're confused
  • you're overwhelmed by all the advice people are giving you
  • you don't know what to do

And you do things like:

  • shut down and withdraw
  • go on your phone
  • come home late
  • argue to feel heard
  • avoid people or someone
  • start fights so that you can make up and feel good again or feel reassured
  • compromise your values for the sake of the relationship
  • make a big effort to smooth things over and put things behind you
  • try to forget and move on
  • buy gifts for them
  • do more things for them
  • give them more compliments or praise in an effort to repair things
  • pursue affection

Imagine what it would feel like to be in a healthy relationship again. Where you communicate easily, where you have a voice and you feel heard. Where you receive as well as give and where you feel fulfilled.
